Message from Principal MileyHappy May to All!
The sun is shining bright, and the grass is growing green. It’s the month of May Flowers! We are counting up with only 8 more days to go until the very last day of the school year. It’s so hard to believe that the last day of the school is year is approaching. We are committed to pushing through the last few days, and we all are excited about the excellence that our students have demonstrated. Thus, it is a great month to celebrate the good times and conclude a very successful year!
Although just a tad bit too early to reflect on the entire year, I can’t help but reflect on the accomplishments, thus far. As we continue the work with our parents and students and continue creating a school community that values academic distinction and developing well-rounded and balanced students, I can celebrate and attest to supporting a school community that advocates for every child. This alone, is the highest level of success accomplished this year.
There are many more successes we will celebrate this year. As a culminating activity, all grade levels will continue to recognize student achievements. I encourage everyone to participate in the culminating school activities and end-of-the year celebrations. As you plan to join us for closing activities, please see below for a few gentle reminders.
Before I close out this month’s Principal’s message, I want to an opportunity to thank our staff and wonderful community for their hard work and dedication this year; I want to thank each of you for allowing me to lead a wonderful school. I am so privileged to have been chosen as your leader. I am extremely humbled and honored to be a part of something so great.
Thank you for all that you do and will continue to do for the Extraordinary Dolphins!
Your Partner in Education,
Principal Miley
Reminders for End-of-the-Year Closing Activities:
Please note all guidelines and procedures are in place to ensure the safety for our children and staff members.
· Parents and Community Members must be approved volunteers in order to visit classrooms and work alongside the teachers in the classroom environment. Younger siblings may not volunteer with parents; only approved adults, over the age of 18 may volunteer during the school day.
· If a student enrolled in another FCS school desires to volunteer at A. Philip Randolph Elementary, the student must receive clearance from the receiving school and enrolled school. Administrative approval is required and the volunteer opportunity must be scheduled in advance.
· To ensure the safety of all visitors, only approved volunteers are allowed to participate in the End-of-the Year Celebrations and all school-based activities. Students whom are not enrolled at A. Philip Randolph Elementary may not participate in school-based activities such as: Field Day, EOY Celebrations, and other school-based events.
· Awards Ceremonies are held during the morning hours. Family members, friends, and un-enrolled siblings are welcomed to attend, but must depart at the close of the ceremony.
· End-of-the-Year Parties are celebrated during specific hours of the day, and based on the schedule shown within the weekly reminders. Grade-level fees do cover the End-of-the Year Party. If you have not submitted your child's grade level fees, please do so at your earliest convenience. Your support is appreciated!
2018 Promotional Ceremonies: Your involvement in our annual celebration of honor is warranted. If you are interested in support your child’s grade level with planning and preparation for this awesome day of honor, please reach out to your child’s teacher. Each year we actively seek and recruit our fourth grade parents to volunteer to support our fifth grade promotional ceremony. The Fifth Grade Awards Day is a culminating activity for our fifth grade students, as they prepare to transition to middle school. It’s a very special time! Thus, fourth grade parents, we do need your support. Please reach out to your child’s homeroom teacher if you are interested in volunteering for the fifth grade promotional ceremony.
Please view the schedule for our Annual Awards Day Schedule. (Posted within the weekly reminders)
Parent Input Form: Class Placement-2019-20: Just as has been practice the past three years, again this year, we will have class assignments available the last week in July. Student placements are also available for viewing during Open-House, Thursday, August 02, 2018.
Parent Input Forms are available, although not required, in the Main Office. We take great pride and care in placing every one of our students in their homeroom class, balancing each and every class by academic ability and student need. One of the key principles is to maintain heterogeneously grouped classes that are well-balanced and serve our student population. We have a strategic approach that allows us to both seek and utilize parent input, teacher input, and student data to create well-balanced classes that can serve the needs of all students.
Thanks for all that you do.

How to Help Kids Manage Big Feelings
- One of the greatest gifts a parent can give a child is the ability to handle intense emotions—disappointment, sadness, anger, fear, excitement, happiness—in healthy ways. Whether dealing with a major life change (parental divorce, a move), a hurtful Facebook comment or a broken toy, kids can’t be told what to feel, but they can learn how to name and manage their feelings. Here’s how you, as a parent, can guide them.
